Spiritual Matter

Louis Kahn invented a new modernist architecture, one which is both timeless and of its time. He dealt with matter in spiritual terms, masses become weightless, materials dissolve into immateriality, rays of light reveal the realm of shadows. A unity of structure, space and light form a higher abstract order grounded with the weight and essence of an ancient monument. A harmonious intuition led me to behold the architectural treasures in Fort Worth, Texas, first to Louis Kahn’s Kimbell Art Museum then to the Tadao Ando designed Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth a stone’s throw away. On the subject of materials, both Kahn and Ando’s masterful use of concrete and stone bring me to my reason for being in Texas, to celebrate my ever growing adoration for Gemfields ethically mined emeralds and rubies. In collaboration with Muse Showroom the vibrant Gemfields stones have been interpreted by an artful array of emerging jewelry designers. An ensemble of elements come together to heighten and memorialize experience, stones with innate character are dynamic and ever-changing in the natural light.
