Metallic Glow

Inside Out is Richard Serra’s enormous new torqued steel installation at the Gagosian Gallery. Drawing from Zen concepts of revelation and unveiling, the work is like an undulating maze punctuated with serene circular clearings. Moving through the rolling copper toned walls hyperaware of the flowing lines of floor and sky, I’m washed with a feeling of wonder. Serra’s mastery of his media is sheer brilliance, allowing him to render increasingly complex and evocative forms. Always one who is drawn to texture and materiality, I chose this intricate beaded dress by the Indian designer Pia Pauro. The clean modern silhouette keeps it fresh and the black tights and turtleneck further the mod look that I love. The copper thread inlay picks up the warm rich glow of the steel plates, resulting in a composition layered with space, texture, and movement.
